Grullo Roan Colt
  • Born May 1, 2011

  • Grullo roan colt, star, 1 white coronet

  • Working/cow bloodlines all the way through!

  • I really second-guessed myself for breeding this cutting-bred mare to my Hancock-bred stallion. But I just had a feeling that something really special would result, and it looks like it happened! THIS is one eye-appealing colt!

  • He was sold/reserved in the fall/winter, but the buyers did not take him. I had knee surgery before they showed up to get him, and couldn't help them load him or work with him for a couple months prior. I'll be honest and will say that the loading methods they tried were very ineffective, and I probably won't be able to let him go until mid/late May when I'm released from my crutches and can work at loading with him again.

  • Bay Silver pony mare, "Belle"

  • This mare was used at a kids camp before we got her. We have not ridden her very much recently, but will ride her as much as we can this spring to refresh her.

  • Belle has been ridden in arenas, pastures, and in parades. She goes where you point her and has been a nice pony for us, though we've not ridden her much in the last 3 years or so. We plow rein her, and she goes with a bit and also with a halter and lead rope.

  • She had a foal before we got her, and she tore very badly. No breeding homes...riding only!

  • $1000

  • Black mini gelding, "Coco"

  • Great babysitter for kids!

  • Coco is a super lead-line pony, and my kids have ridden him a LOT with a halter and leadrope as well as with a snaffle (snaffle bit goes with him).

  • He doesn't buck and has been a safe and fun pony for us.

  • He doesn't neck rein (I've tried to get the girls to work on that, but they are more interested in "just riding"), so he plow reins. They usually ride him with a halter because it's faster and easier, and they ride him whether I'm around or not.

  • Most of his riding has been in enclosures (dry lots, arenas) because if he's walking on green grass, he'll try to stop and graze...a common problem when a small child is on a pony.

  • To lope Coco, the girls have to use a crop. Coco likes to walk.

  • Coco doesn't like to be fly sprayed, and I've not worked with him to fix it. We rarely spray him.

  • We have an ill-fitting child's saddle, but again, the girls don't use it because it's faster to just hop on. Coco doesn't mind the saddle at all. But it is prone to sliding forward because our saddle is too wide and Coco doesn't have much for withers compared to a full-sized horse. To ride very long with our poorly-made saddle, a crupper strap would be beneficial. If you have a little saddle, it might be better than ours and this might not be a problem. I've seen cruppers for sale for minis.

  • It has been a long time since we've trail ridden with him, but when we did, he went along at horse speed and didn't try to stop to graze. He did have to trot to keep up at regular intervals, which he decided on his own at appropriate times. He's just too short to keep pace with full-sized horses at a walk, and must periodically trot to keep his place in line.

  • I will take a picture of Coco's teeth to see if we can determine his approximate age. When we bought him about 7 years ago, he was supposed to be 4, but I think he was a little older than 4. The two pictures of him walking loose in the pasture are from summer 2011, and you can see that he doesn't have a swayed back and is in good flesh. He isn't showing age.

  • I believe he has a little bit of an overbite...will have to look at that again to be sure. He has had no trouble eating.

  • $500 SOLD! Congratulations to Coco's new family in Texas!

  • Many of our horses have a price somewhere in our minds....even if not advertised for sale, so if you see something elsewhere on our site that you like that isn't listed for sale here, feel free to make an offer we can't refuse!  We will probably say "no" if the horse is not listed as being for sale, but have been convinced in the past from time to time.

  • We try very hard to be honest and critical of our horses.  We will try to point out areas for improvement on horses for sale as well as strengths.  Please look at all available photos and request a video if you are unsure of a horse's quality.  It is very difficult to see all of the faults on your own horses, but we really try so you will not be disappointed in a horse purchased from us!  We'd rather scare you away than have you be disappointed down the road.
