Lady Squaw Bug Moon

SOLD!

AQHA 2870063, 1989 grullo mare

We bought this mare when we bought another horse in Oklahoma.  She was a spur of the moment decision.  We haven't worked with her at all and so can't tell you much about her, but she loads nicely and leads.  I don't know how she treats a stallion, if she's broke, etc.  But for her price that we are offering her at and for her breeding (wow!), she will definitely be a mare that someone ought to buy who is looking to get into grullos and doesn't want to pay a huge amount.  And if you're looking for a speedy one....goodness gracious...where will you find a grullo with this much speed in her pedigree?

bullet

Sire had a speed index of 99, and the rest of her pedigree is loaded for speed as well.  On her AQHA papers (3-generation) are three horses with speed indexes of 100 and three more with speed indexes in the 90's.

bullet

Poco Bueno is one step off her papers, and is on her 4-generation pedigree (see below)

bullet

Beautiful, light slate/silvery grullo mare with no white

bullet

Good bone, little ears, and a long hip

bullet

SWEET, sweet head, especially for a grullo

bullet

Scar on a hind heel, but it doesn't seem to have negatively affected her

bullet

She was preg-checked in foal the day we bought her, November 29th or 30th, but was in heat within a week of that date and ultrasounded as open (with no evidence of a recent pregnancy).  She didn't have any problems found via ultrasound that indicated that she wouldn't be sound for breeding.  Contact me for the vet's phone number.

bullet

The only concerns we have are that she is mildly foundered on her front feet, but moves mostly sound.  She seems to have not been handled much, and requires grain to catch her.  She isn't a horse for a newby...she is easy to handle once she's haltered, but I think would try to buffalo anyone the first time she's handled just to see if she could stump you.  You have to remain confident around her when you meet her so she knows you aren't a pushover.  Once she knows that, she's fine to be around.  She was a total sweetheart during the vet check and ultrasound.

bullet

Probably for sale, as we couldn't do justice to her pedigree (we think she should be bred to another race-bred stallion to produce a grullo barrel or speed prospect, rather than being bred to our stallion, which would just dilute down her speed breeding).
