Midnight Blue Foxy

1994 AQHA, FQHR Blue Roan Mare

Pictures

Foxy is a salt-and-pepper blue roan mare who has thrown blue roan color for all of the years that I know of that she has foaled.  She is open for 2005 due to the loss of our stallion, but has never had a breeding or foaling problem since we've owned her.  We bred her on one day in 2004, and then had a storm and couldn't breed her again during that cycle (I refuse to breed when there's lightning because I don't want to get hit!).  She came up open, of course, and we lost our stallion before we could breed her back.  The ONLY reason we would sell her is that we no longer have a Hancock-bred stallion and we are considering moving to mainly cutting and reining bred mares.  We feel she might better be used in a Hancock/ranch/roping program.

Foxy is a unique-looking mare, with one ear tip frosted off.  She is branded a lazy DZ on her left shoulder and our cedar tree on her left hip.  She has excellent bone, and hooves that have not needed to be trimmed since at least 1997, according to her previous owner and our experience.  She also has speed to her, and my guess is that her babies could be high-achieving roping horses.

She outproduces herself by far.  Though she isn't what I'd call a looker, she has beautiful babies!  Foxy's 2002 colt sold for $5000 as a yearling, and was a big, great-boned blue roan colt.  Her 2003 colt was the best-balanced blue roan I've ever seen, and had a beautiful little head (sold for $7000).  Her 2004 filly has a HUGE hip, is thick as can be, and has a short head as well  (and though Foxy and her sire were both 15 hh or under, looks as though she will hit 15.2 hh).  Those were all by different stallions.

bullet4 crosses to Joe Hancock on her top side
bulletBlue roan color (salt and pepper...she doesn't turn white on the body in the summer)
bulletPrevious owner had her for over 6 years and said he'd never had to trim her hooves in that time.  As a former farrier, this is EXACTLY what I'm looking for, as her feet look perfectly maintained, and she's done it all herself for 6 years!
bulletHer only white is a partial coronet band on a back hoof.
bulletThough she's only 14.3  or 15 hh, her sire was 15.3 hh and I suspect she might throw some larger foals than her size would suggest (and her foals for us are proving that).
bulletGreat bone, and is a sturdy mare that makes big-built babies
bulletShe was not broke to my knowledge, and has been used strictly as a broodmare.
bulletVery calm disposition.
