Recommended for a rider 8 to 13 years old
(due to size and confidence level).
Junior is very well broke, neck reins,
walks/trots/lopes and will come down from a lope to a stop in very few
steps in between.
He has an occasional lapse in judgment,
which seems to happen if his rider is constantly pulling on his mouth. He
has not bucked any of us off, but has reared up a couple times after his
very young rider rode an hour to two hours while pulling on his mouth too
much as a method of feeling stable.
He is very good for a child that has ridden
for a year or two, but like most ponies, may take advantage of a
first-time rider and walk to the gate or to the nearest adult.
I have forms indicating he has earned at
least 14 points with AQPA, but have not inquired to learn whether the
points were actually recorded/filed.
In 2012, we rode Junior out on
pastures/hayfields, and he did very well both when alone and with other
horses. In 2013, we have ridden him in an arena, but my kids have outgrown
him so no longer trail ride with him. We are just doing light
schooling/riding and tuning up in case someone wants to show him this
summer.
Although we have ridden him alone away from
his herd, he does best if he is not in a pasture with other horses. He has
shown buddy-sourness a few times.
IDEAL HOME: A single-horse home where his
best friend is his child.
I think he'd be a great pony for a rider 8
years old or a "cowboy kid" rider. Someone that won't have to hang on with
the reins to stay on would get along well with him.
I discovered after we took the video that my kids had stolen his curb
strap for another bridle. So, his teeth were getting hit by the bit
whenever contact with his mouth was made probably. He was very patient
despite the missing piece of bridle!
